The Ozil Goal vs Ludogorets: The Original Clip and Song Behind the AI Trend

The Ozil goal everyone is recreating with AI is Mesut Özil's 87th-minute winner for Arsenal away at Ludogorets on 1 November 2016. With the score at 2–2, he chipped the goalkeeper as he rushed out, waited while two defenders slid past him, and rolled the ball into the empty net. In October 2026 the slow-motion replay of that goal, set to the French song Clandestina, turned into an AI trend: people put themselves, their grandma or a cartoon character in Özil's place.
The original goal: Ludogorets 2–3 Arsenal
It was a Champions League group game. Ludogorets went 2–0 up inside the first 15 minutes through Cafu and Keseru, and Granit Xhaka and Olivier Giroud pulled Arsenal level before half-time. Özil's late goal won it 3–2 and sent Arsenal into the last 16.
What made the goal famous is how calm it was. Most players shoot when the keeper comes out. Özil lifted the ball over him, let it drop, then let two defenders throw themselves at the ball and miss before he finished.
What happens in the Ozil goal, second by second
The trend uses a slow-motion sideline replay that runs about 15 seconds. This is how it plays out in the replay we use:
| Time | What happens |
|---|---|
| 0–2s | The goalkeeper rushes out and the ball is lifted over him |
| 2–5s | The scorer runs on as the ball drops behind the keeper |
| 5–9s | The first defender slides in and misses |
| 9–12s | The second defender goes to ground too |
| 12–15s | The ball is rolled into the empty net |
When the Ozil AI trend started
On Google Trends, searches for "ozil goal" were flat until October 9, 2026 and peaked on October 17. Early versions that went viral swapped in Woody from Toy Story and SpongeBob, and by October 19 Özil had posted an AI version of the goal himself. A week after the peak, searches were still at roughly 40% of the high point, so the format is still going.
What is the Ozil goal song?
The trend plays Clandestina, a French-language song, over the slow-motion replay. Most versions keep the same part of the song from the first touch to the finish, which is why the clips sound alike even when the scorer changes. Our generator puts that same sound on every clip, lined up with the goal.
